History Of Vondelpark

History Of Vondelpark

Established in 1864, Vondelpark Amsterdam is a public park that was founded by Christiaan Pieter van Eeghen and his companions. The park was designed later in the year 1865, and the statue of Joost van den Vondel, a famous playwright and writer in 1867 and that is how the park got its name Vondelpark. In the early 19th century, a rose garden was set up here.

With the passing of time, it became difficult to deal with the park's maintenance costs, hence, the city of Amsterdam started to make heavy donations in 1953. In the 1960s, the park underwent a complete renovation, after which a flower power area, open-air theatre and children's playground were installed here.
